Dutton´s Evolution of BeautyThis series was developed based on academic Denis Dutton´s controversial theory that suggests that beauty is not a cultural but is instead evolutionary and based on Darwin´s theory of Sexual Selection. These works were neither created in agreement nor disagreement with Denis Dutton´s theory. Instead, they were created as a criticism of contemporary art. If Dutton´s theory is true, that beauty is evolutionary, then it is Burns´s belief that contemporary art has moved away from beauty as a critical element of art. Burns contends that this should not be the case, and that beauty should be a goal, if not in all art, in a substantial portion of it. Dutton´s Evolution of Beauty #3Oil on Canvas (2016)
