And the packing has begun. A one-month stay in a city that could drop down to freezing at night and be as warm as 60F during the day isn't so easy. Two suitcases it is, and that's just for the art supplies. I generally pack clothes in my carry-on anyway (I once stayed three days in 85F weather in Santiago-de-Chile while I awaited my warmer to clothes to arrive on the next plane in. I was wearing 40F clothes on the way down!).
Not only has the packing begun, but the secret work of art is well under way as well. This past step has been more difficult that I imagined, so now I'm wondering how the next step will work itself out. You see, after cutting the cans up I needed to flatten them, and three weeks under some heavy, old National Geographics hasn't really helped as much as I anticipated. It turns out the aluminum on the beer cans is shaped and formed better than I imagined. But no fear here. This may work out in the end, or at least I'm imagining a better solution than what I was imagining before.

Below are some more pics, including one that may leave you guessing until next time. That will come in January, probably the first week I'm there. Because I work a lot with oil, my plan is to do as much oil painting as I can the first two weeks so that the oil has a couple of weeks to dry enough to put some workable varnish on it to protect it on the trip home. I'll be doing my charcoal studies and watercolors almost every day. The secret work of art will commence the last two weeks while I'm letting the oil dry, but don't worry, you'll get more updates before then.
